The Starting Point
Our Meals
A good meal is the best beginning to any encounter, and we want to make sure that our guests feel at home by offering them food made with love and served with compassion. Built on the legacy of many passionate cooks over the years, we are honoured to have a kitchen whose reputation stretches far and wide in our community. We offer two hearty, warm and nutritious meals every day as well as providing food and snacks to take away.
Food Bank
Market
We are pleased to announce a significant change in our food basket distribution method! Guests will be able to create their own food bag using our new grocery-style service. This approach aims to offer greater flexibility and satisfaction.
Participants can come once a month on Thursdays from 8:30am to 2pm. Photo ID and proof of address for all members of the household are required.
Please remember to Bring Your Own Bags!
Hygiene
Showers and more
Access to basic hygiene goods and services is key to respecting the dignity and support the well-being of our community. We offer hot showers on a first-come first-served basis every day during our operating hours, in addition to providing a range of basic products that are essential to maintaining personal hygiene. On occasion, we are lucky to be able to welcome several skilled barbers to our facilities.
Psychosocial Intervention
At St. Michael’s Mission we strive to create a trusting connection with all individuals that we welcome into our shelter. Our staff are willing and able to support individuals at any stage of their journey to reintegration, including long-term monitoring.
This includes assistance with the following:
- Accessing temporary and long-term accommodation
- Job search (including accessing and creating necessary materials)
- Psychological distress
- Conflict resolution
- Crisis intervention
- Food insecurity
- Bureaucratic accompaniment (such as assistance filing documentation or accessing public or private services)
- Referral to partner organizations and programs (including CACTUS Montreal, YMCA Dialogue, OBM’s Clinique Mobile, among many others)
